I will use this thread to post my diary. I was going to do it on the EA Boards, but I am having so much trouble with them, I will just post it here.
Background Information-
Greg Knox was born in California, but he only lived there for one year, since soon after his birth, his father got a job in central Illinois. Greg grew up playing football, and he played quarterback through high school, but when he got to the University of Illinois, he converted to wide receiver. Greg went on to set Illinois records for most career receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. But because Greg had a friend who played in the NFL for 13 years, he had heard that playing in the NFL was not the lifestyle for him, a family man. Greg got married in his senior year of college. When he graduated from Illinois in 1997, he was offered the offensive coordinator position for the Illini. Coach Greg Knox accepted the position, and did very well. When the Rams' owner came to watch the Illini play, he was impressed with Coach Knox's WRs and how precisely they ran their routes and how they were always in position to make the catch. The Rams' owner offered him the job as the WR coach for the Rams, and he held that position from 1998-2004, when the Rams went to the super bowl twice and won in 1999. Coach Knox taught Torry Holt a lot of what he knows today, and Greg was instrumental in the development of the star wideout. Then the rams let him go when his contract ran out, because Greg wanted to spend more time with his family. Then, in July of 2004, Coach Knox's family moved to Pittsburgh to be closer to family. He met the Rooney family at a church function, and they got to talking football. Dan Rooney remembered watching the Illini play back in the day, and he invited Greg to interview with the team to be the new WR coach, and Coach Knox accepted. The interview went very well, and Greg coached the WRs for the 2004/05 season. The next year, when the offensive coordinator retired, Greg got the job, and he was an integral part of the Steelers' offense, balancing Jerome Bettis, Duce Staley, and Willie Parker well and working with Hines Ward in order to make him a better possession receiver. Coach Knox spent a lot of time with Ben Roethlisberger, and taught him the keys to being an effective QB in his system. After the Steelers made a mad dash to the super bowl and won, Greg was looking for a new job, as his family was moving back to central Illinois. He talked to the Rams, after they fired Mike Martz, and he was offered the head coaching position for the Rams. He quickly accepted, and he began to get comfortable as an NFL Head Coach.
Part 2 will come on Wednesday, June 21st.
